It’s been a while since I’ve been excited about a fashion event in Houston. Exactly two months from now, that changes. Houston will be mixing my two loves, fashion and African culture, to showcase its 4th Annual African Fashion Week. Get your planner and pen out because I’m about to give you the run down of this year’s events that you won’t want to miss.
This year’s “Making The Connection” themed African Fashion Week Houston is scheduled for September 18th – 24th. Events range from seminars and workshops to a film screening, social mixers, and of course, runway fashion shows. With at least one event each day of the week, the opening reception will be at Ogun Art + Wine on Monday September 18th, and culminate in the Fashion Farmers Tradeshow and FOSE Grand Fashion Show on Sunday September 24th at Houston Rental Studio. Also not to be be missed are the Beauty & Make-Up Workshop at Color Du Jour on Tuesday, Wine, Art and Culture at Cherie Flores Garden Pavilion on Thursday, and the Ankara 4 Seasons Fashion Show at Holiday Inn Houston (Westchase) on Friday.
If you’re like me and can’t wait to get in the mix, no worries. Preceding the official launch of the fashion week series in September, AFWH will also host Cultured Cocktails at Boheme, and Cigars & Stilettos on July 27th, JAAJO’s AfroBeat for Breast Cancer Dance Class in August, and more to be announced. In addition, African Fashion Week Houston is proud to announce the National Breast Cancer Foundation as their official charity of the 2017 fashion week series. A portion of this year’s ticket sales will benefit the foundation.
